Modernizing Craigslist: Redesign for Better Usability

Craigslist has remained largely unchanged for over 25 years, leading to usability challenges such as clunky navigation, poor visual hierarchy, and an outdated mobile experience. This redesign modernizes the platform while preserving its simplicity and core functionality.

Design Process

Discovery

I began by researching user pain points through competitor analysis, online forums like Reddit, and data insights to gather real user feedback. Common frustrations included inefficient filtering, difficult navigation, and lack of visual hierarchy.

Ideate

With key challenges identified, I searched for inspiration and created a moodboard to define the visual direction. The focus was on improving usability, refining category navigation, and establishing a more structured layout.

Design

High-fidelity visuals were developed with a modern, minimalist UI. A grid-based layout, improved typography, and a refined color scheme enhanced readability and engagement.

Prototype

Interactive mockups were created to test the new navigation, search filters, and mobile responsiveness. These prototypes allowed for early feedback and iterative improvements.

Evaluate

User testing and feedback confirmed that the redesign improved ease of use, reduced browsing friction, and made listings more accessible across devices.

Develop

With a validated design, the next steps involve refining interactions based on additional testing and preparing for implementation.
